Statutory health insurance with DAK-Gesundheit

Statuary Health Insurance with DAK-Gesundheit is tailored to foreign nationals who are temporarily living in Germany and do not want to insure themselves through private health insurance.

We won't wish for it, but in case something happens and you will need to claim on your health insurance, please try to keep the injury or illness to a minimum and avoid doing anything that could increase costs unnecessarily.

Please immediately contact your insurance partner and fill in the claim report form completely and truthfully. The insurers will then get in touch with you if they need more information than already provided.

No. In case you are ill and have to visit a physician or are admitted to hospital, the costs for medical treatments are settled directly with the health insurer. You will not have to pay anything, just show your electronic health insurance card and everything will be fine.

Your DAK-Gesundheit statutory health insurance for foreign visitors covers the costs of inpatient hospital treatment, of medicines and dressings prescribed by a doctor and medically advisable ambulance services.

It also covers the costs of a range of dental treatment, medically prescribed massage and physiotherapy. You will find a complete overview on DAK-Gesundheit's website.

Though most of the illnesses are covered through your DAK-Gesundheit statutory health insurance, it excludes claims resulting from injury caused deliberately by the insured. This could include illnesses or accidents caused on purpose and treatment as a result of a suicide attempt.

In Germany, the basic price for a statutory health insurance is always the same – no matter which insurance company you chose. As an ordinary student, you may exercise an employment in addition to your study if the employment

• is not exercised for more than 20 hours a week or
• is limited to 2 months or
• is limited to the university holidays.

If these limits are exceeded, you will no longer be considered a student but an employee, and thus be subject to corresponding statutory social insurance.

Before starting employment, we recommend you get in contact with the insurance company in order to find out if there will be any problems resulting from starting your student job.
