PCI Standard for secure credit card payments
HanseMerkur uses the globally recognised PCI standard for secure credit card payments.
HanseMerkur Reiseversicherung meets the PCI security standard (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) - an international and neutral organisation for credit card payments. By complying with the PCI, payments made with your credit card are now even more secure and instances of fraud counteracted.
This compulsory safety standard guarantees that HanseMerkur Reiseversicherung will never have personal access to or process your credit card details.
Double protection – Payment Services Directive (PSD 2)
The new Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD 2) has been in force in Europe since 14 September 2019. The directive regulates payment services and payment service providers and applies to all payments in EU/EEA currencies.
Among other things, the objective of PSD 2 is to increase security in online payment transactions and to strengthen consumer protection.
‘Strong customer authentication’ is an obligation that has been introduced through PSD 2. Online payments and card payments must now be confirmed by two independent factors – ‘two-factor authentication’. As an example, when making an online payment by credit card, apart from the card information you must also need a second factor such as a PIN, TAN or password. This applies only to initial or one-off payments. On initial approval, you also grant authorisation for future charges to your credit card for all subsequent transactions in the case of recurring payments.
HanseMerkur has no control over technical problems that may arise within two-factor authentication and cannot offer any support with this.
